Why is this important?
While technology and changing geopolitical contexts have created new and more powerful versions of weaponized narrative, it is worth remembering the deep historical roots of some of the basic practices, including some that derive from the American Revolution. More fundamentally, of course, the history of art is to a large degree a history of propaganda; only relatively recently has art assumed a counter-cultural posture. BA
